Patricia J. “Pat” DeForest

Patricia J. “Pat” Deforest, 70, of West Edmeston passed away peacefully Monday March 19, 2018 in Oneonta, NY surrounded by her family.

Pat was born in Ilion, NY on April 30, 1947 the daughter of the late Robert and Florence Mykel Rood. In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her husband Frederick L. Deforest on September 20, 2011, children Sylvia Deforest, Donna Sweet, Michael Deforest, sisters Gladys Eldred, Dorothy Roberts, brothers Robert Rood Jr, Lawrence Rood, and Arthur Rood.

She is survived by children Laurie A. Goodspeed, Timothy E. Deforest, Susan Schaffer, Jeffrey A. Deforest, David W. Deforest, grandchildren, Travis P. Deforest, Stephanie M. Registe, Frederick W. Deforest, Cody LaFayette Goodspeed, Connor T. Deforest, Aydin J. Deforest, Katlyn I. Deforest, Audrey E. Deforest, Riley A. Deforest, Jason Sweet, siblings, Mary (John) Bush, Ruthie Turnbull, Edward (Linda) Rood, Mykel (Deb) Rood, half sister Betty (Walter) Ketchum, and numerous nieces nephews.

Pat was a lifetime resident of the West Edmeston. She loved her community, and babysat multiple generations of children in her home. She is remembered as a loving mother grandmother, friend and neighbor.

A service to celebrate Pat’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Friday March 23, 2018 at the West Edmeston Baptist Church, with a reception to immediately follow in the Parish House. Interment will be in West Edmeston Union Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

  2. Thoughts, love hugs and prayers to the entire DeForest family. Your mom was a very sweet, funny, spunky lady. She loved children. I remember growing up in West Ed and seeing her walk around the block with several children in tow. they were in good hands. May you cherish all of the special memories you have with her as you move forward with coping with her loss. You now have a special angel looking over all of you.
